This topic is of great interest to me. I have been privileged enough to have benefitted from adaptive technologies but not necessarily need them. This privilege has allowed me to be ignorant of many adaptive technologies and their uses. As a prospective teacher it is my duty to learn as many different technologies as possible, their uses, and how to incorporate them into a class. I am far from knowing them all but as we move through this course I am picking up some along the way.

Today in class we learned about different adaptive technologies. We were asked to select a couple ATs and then list them altogether to make a master list of pros/cons in class. This was extremely helpful to see different tech that I have never heard of and their uses. For example: Dragon Speech to text. But there were also low tech and low cost examples like pencil grips and highlighters. Having these items that I take for granted reframed as ATs has been really useful.

The technology we focused on today was sketch notes and the pros of physically writing out notes. This class was really interesting to me because I have only ever taken hand written notes in my university career. I found that everything the study showed about detail retention proved true to my experience taking notes. I also have done mind maps for test review without really realizing that this is an adaptive technology. My mind maps are a lot less colourful and don’t have pictures but they get the job done! Though-one key that I should get better at is being able to read it!

Using this method and including more art and colour would be a really good review tool for a future class.
